Trout Bonus Limit at the Rock Island Ponds

Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife  — 9/29/2006

Action: The daily limit for trout has been temporarily been increased from 5 to 15 trout per day at the Rock Island Ponds

Species affected: Trout

Location: Rock Island; includes Pitt, Putters, Hammond and Big Bow Lakes

Effective dates: October 1 until December 31, 2006 or until further notice.

Reason for action: To provide the public the opportunity to harvest an unexpected surplus of hatchery-reared cutthroat trout. These fish must be stocked this fall due to water and space limitations at the hatchery.

Other Information: Overwinter survival and fish quality will suffer if the trout are allowed to remain in the ponds until next spring. The expanded limit will allow anglers to utilize these fish white they are still in good condition.

Information contact: Art Viola (509) 665-3337 or the Wenatchee office (509) 662-0452.

Fishers must have a current Washington fishing license. Check the current WDFW "Fishing in Washington" rules pamphlet or the Fishing section of the WDFW webpage at wdfw.wa.gov for details on fishing seasons and regulations. Fishing regulations are subject to change. Check the WDFW Fishing hotline for the latest rule information at (360) 902-2500; press 2 for recreational rules; call the Shellfish Rule Change hotline, (360) 796-3215, or toll free 1 (866) 880-5431.
