Klineline Pond Fishing Closure for Fishing Kids Event

Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife  — 3/23/2006

Action: Closes Klineline Pond to fishing by the public two days prior to the fishing event as well as the day of the event until 6:00 p.m. The pond will open at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 15.

Effective dates:
  • April 13 – 12:01 a.m., entire pond closed to public fishing.
  • April 14 – pond closed.
  • April 15 – 8:00 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. open to fishing in the netted area to juvenile anglers in the Fishing Kids event.
  • April 15 – pond closed 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.

Location: Klineline Pond is located at Salmon Creek Park, Vancouver, Washington.

Reasons for action: This rule change is necessary to assure a safe and successful Fishing Kids event. Trout will be stocked two days prior to the event to acclimate them. Closing the pond prior to the event will ensure there are fish for participants to catch. On the day of the event, pre-registered kids will be allowed to fish within these netted areas. The pond will not open to the public until 6:00 p.m. on April 15.

The reason for keeping the pond closed until 6:00 p.m. on April 15 is to ensure safety for the public as well as the event participants while the event is shutting down and equipment and nets are being removed. We will have several hundred feet of nets that will be pulled from the shoreline area. Over the past few years trying to pull these nets while the anglers were trying to fish was not only a hazard to the staff but also a hazard to the anglers. To alleviate any problems and safety issues, fishing will not be allowed until 6:00 p.m.

Other information: The Fishing Kids event has been held at Klineline Pond for the past seven years and is a part of a statewide program. Prior to this, the local community sponsored the event. The event this year will bring in over 1,500 registered kids as well as their families, friends and general members of the public.
