Anglers Must Release Tagged Salmon On Upper Columbia, Okanogan Rivers

Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife  — 7/14/2006

Action: Release of all tagged salmon

Species affected: Summer chinook salmon

Location: Columbia River from Priest Rapids Dam up river to Chief Joseph Dam, and the Okanogan River.

Effective dates: July 15 through Oct. 15, 2006

Reason for action: During routine biological sampling at Wells, and Dryden dams, a small number of chinook will be sampled for management and research purposes. The biological sampling is necessary to better estimate the stock structure and the number of wild fish returning to the upper Columbia River Basin.

Other information: Some chinook salmon will be fitted with a colored "anchor tag" approximately two inches in length located near the dorsal fin.

Information contact: Art Viola (509) 665-3337, Bob Jateff (509) 826-7341 or the WDFW Wenatchee office (509) 662-0452.
