South Dakota Department of Game, Fish and Parks
States, Tourney Organizer Study Walleye MortalitySouth Dakota Department of Game, Fish and Parks — 10/2/2006FLW, and five Midwest state including South Dakota, are participating in a study to determine the impact on walleye survival related to tournament stress. According to S.D. Game, Fish and Parks Department Fisheries Program Administrator Dennis Unkenholz, there have been small studies in the past, but nothing has ever been attempted before on this scale. "The current interstate effort is an attempt to gather information that will be applicable across the Midwest," Unkenholz said. According to Unkenholz, the walleye tournament study objectives include:
A study progress meeting is scheduled for December in Minneapolis, Minn. The FLW Tournament, with $675,000 in prize money, is set for Oct. 4 through Oct. 7 at Spring Creek Resort.
