Boating Restriction Changes Made by GFP Commission

South Dakota Department of Game, Fish and Parks  — 3/13/2006

PIERRE – A new set of rules passed by the Game, Fish and Parks Commission has updated boating restriction requirements on four bodies of water located in northeastern South Dakota.

The changes will be on Putney Slough Game Production Area in Brown County, Helgeson Slough in Clark County, and Rock Crandall Game Production Area and East Stink Lake in Marshall County.

Two sections of the Putney Slough area have been deleted from the "no boating zone" requirements on the area. The boating restriction requirements on Putney Slough Game Production Area allow migrating waterfowl to concentrate here. Removing the two sections does not change the ability of the area to hold waterfowl, and will allow improved access to the area for waterfowl hunters. Sections 5 and 6 of Township 124 North and Range 61 West were removed. Sections 8, 17 and 18 still have the restriction.

The "no boating zone" requirement on Helgeson Slough has been expanded from May 1 through July 31, to now include the dates of March 1 through July 31 inclusive. The same date expansion will be included for Rock Crandall Game Production Area. The date change is intended to standardize dates for boating restrictions on these areas where GFP operates goose feeding stations.

The waters of East Stink Lake and contiguous waters east of State Highway 25 will now have a "no boating zone" requirement from March 1 through July 31. This area has been added to protect the effectiveness of a goose feeding station.
