Bonneville Reservoir Closes to Sturgeon Retention July 24

Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife  — 7/13/2006

SALEM — The Bonneville Reservoir will close to the retention of sturgeon on Monday, July 24 at 12:01 a.m. PDT.

Fishery managers from Oregon and Washington, operating as the Columbia River Compact, met on July 12 and decided to close the area because they expect its annual harvest quota of 700 fish to be reached on July 23.

The closure affects the Columbia River between Bonneville Dam and The Dalles Dam, commonly referred to as the Bonneville Reservoir. Anglers may still catch-and-release sturgeon in the reservoir through the end of the year.

More information on the sturgeon angling rules may be found on the ODFW Web site at: http://www.dfw.state.or.us/resources/fishing/.
