Four Technicians from Dealerships First to Earn Yamaha Certified Master Technician Status

3/17/2006

KENNESAW, Ga. — Four marine service technicians from Yamaha Outboard dealerships have become the first to earn Certified Master Technician, the highest certification a Yamaha outboard technician can attain.

Having completed the final course of the rigorous Yamaha Outboard Master Technician program the week of March 3, these dealer technicians then passed the final certification test on March 10, 2006.

  • Kenny Myers from Paradise Marine Center in Gulf Shores, Ala..
  • Robert R. Haines from Pier 47 Marina in Wildwood, NJ.
  • Paul D. Murphy from Cooper's Marine in Richmond, Va.
  • Angus Sowell from Play Two Marine in Edgewood, Fla.

Each completed the Yamaha Five Star Program, attended all six Master Technician Program Modules, and passed a final exam to earn the certification. Myers has the distinction of being the first Certified Yamaha Outboard Master Technician

Haines said, "Passing this test was a big accomplishment for me because I've only been doing this for six years, so I've got the least amount of experience out of most of these guys. It was a real confidence builder."

Myers said, "The program's final exam really tests your knowledge. The instructors did a good job preparing us for it, but if you know your product, you should be able to pass. Passing the test is kind of a validation for me for all the hard work and years of experience in this industry. I have worked on Yamahas since '84 (more than 20 years)."

"By encouraging our dealers to take part in the Master Technician Program, Yamaha hopes that it will raise the bar for customer satisfaction and improve the boating experience. Dealers who employ Yamaha Certified Master Technicians will have the advantage of offering their customers the absolute best in outboard care," said Shaw Yamasaki, assistant division manager for service.
